Chips & Salsa
You know you have eaten something good when days later you are still craving it…which I most certainly am. La Taqueria is a landmark in the Mission district in San Francisco and an eye opener when it comes to authentic burritos!
It is every man, woman and child for themselves when it comes to finding a seat and be prepared to stand in a long line, but as the saying goes “good things come to those who wait”. The space always seems to be packed, but is actually not that small. There is plenty of seating, mainly low weaved no-back benches that are surprisingly comfortable. One of the things I do love about the space is the open concept to the outdoors, which obviously can happen in the more temperate San Francisco climate. If you go, mentally prepare to dine out or pull a stellar move to get a seat…I promise it is worth it.
I honestly can’t speak too much to the service as my husband got in line while I guarded the table we managed to snag. The one thing I will say is, despite him being far back in line, he moved up pretty quickly which tells me they are pretty efficient here. That gets big marks in my books for a place like this!
Of course I went with the vegetarian burrito (mainly filled with pinto beans and pico de gallo) as so many people had recommended it. I was not disappointed. Hands down, the best burrito I have ever had in my life. My friend suggested we get it el dorado style (something La Taqueria created), which essentially means they crisp up the outside of the soft burrito shell. I also ordered Super (vs regular) adding avocado, sour cream and I think cheese …to die for.
My friends and I also had a chips and salsa to split on the side, but sadly the burritos filled us right up. I did have a few bites as they smelled so delicious and looked so beautiful. The salsa was fresh and I am not sure if the chips are house made, but they sure tasted like it. A little tip: start eating these first as the salsa makes them soggy if they sit too long.
I had the option of a vegetarian burrito, tacos and chips & salsa. The menu isn’t huge, but there was more then enough options for me to pick from and enjoy.
This is what I like to call Cheap and Cheerful. The burrito was large and cost only $7.10. Chips and salsa were a cool $1.75. It is a good thing I don’t live close by as this restaurant find would be dangerous for my mid section for sure.
