One of the reasons I never made the switch from Vegetarian to Vegan is because I love cheese far too much. And as embarrassing as this is, my guilty pleasure is the “cheese” that they pump onto nachos at the movie theaters. So when I stumbled upon NONA Vegan sauces at the St. Lawrence Market one Saturday morning I was a bit skeptical about them living up to my expectations.
I was shocked to find that I not only liked the product, but I actually loved it! The girl at the booth explained to me that the sauces’ base is cashews (common in vegan imitation cheese) and they aren’t just dairy free, but gluten free as well. After purchasing a bottle of the Cheesy-Style sauce and Carbonara-Style sauce, I immediately went home to try it on a true critique…my meat-eating husband. I served him a big bowl of penne pasta tossed in the “carbonara” and patiently waited for the verdict. Not only did I get tw0 thumbs up, but I also got a clean bowl in return (not a scrap was left). I heated up the cheesy style sauce and served it with some whole wheat nacho chips which also went down with a satisfied smile. An absolute delicious product that meat-eaters, people who are gluten-intolerant, vegetarians and vegans can all enjoy.
My only complaint is that once you open the jar, it will only last 7 days in the fridge. So if you get the larger jar and don’t use it all in one meal, you might end up having to have 2 meals with the sauce that week in order not to waste food. But there are worse things in life than having this delicious sauce more than once 🙂
p.s. for Alfredo sauce lovers out there, they have that too!
