REDS offers a very restaurant-pub feel with its copious amount of wood and leather. In true bar form, they lighten up the atmosphere with a beautiful wooden shuffle board table that you can play on as you either wait for a table, wait for your meal or if you are just having a drink at the bar with friends. This restaurant does have outdoor seating on a nice patio too that spills out into the financial district. Overall a fairly upscale, comfortable, and spacious atmosphere. Not really a place I would bring kids, but perfect for a friendly gathering, work related event or date.
Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. We had a large group of people out for a friends birthday and when asked if she could split the bill, she didn’t bat an eye (very accommodating). She tried to make sure we were all well taken care of for drinks and even helped me find a vegetarian option for my friend and I as it was a bit limited. Her pleasant demeanor really added to my experience here.
They offer sangria, which in the summer I have a hard time saying no too. My friend and I ordered a pitcher ($30 and we probably got 5 large glasses out of it at least) and it was very delicious. It was definitely on the sweet side so be prepared.
Unfortunately this restaurant offered no vegetarian main dishes, so my friend and I were forced to get a few sides to share and a salad without the meat. We chose the Tavern Dip Trio which offered pita chips and 4 dips (not sure why its a trio). This included a hummus, tzatziki, roasted red pepper feta and an olive tapenade. The flavours were all good, however I felt that the portion size of the dips were pretty tiny. 2 or 3 spoon fulls and you were done. The other appetizer we ordered was the Crispy Madras Cauliflower, which had some beautiful Indian spices (masala) and a nice fried crunch on the outside. Really enjoyed these and the presentation of the dish was nice as well. Finally we ordered the Salmon, Kale & Quinoa Salad without the salmon. I don’t usually like ordering a dish and asking for them to remove the meat/fish as it is a total rip off for a vegetarian to pay the same price without the expensive protein, however they did adjust the cost. The salad was definitely my favourite part of the meal as it was well dressed, the candied pecans were awesome and the dish as a whole had a lot flavour. Would highly recommend this option for sure. My friend and I shared the 3 dishes and were more than satisfied with the amount of food.
Any restaurant that doesn’t offer at least 1 vegetarian main I would not consider to be vegetarian friendly. There are lots of side dishes to eat so I did not go hungry, but be prepared to get a few things to make up a meal.
I think that this restaurant can be either a mid price point or an expensive meal out depending on how you want to order. They have quite a big range on their menu, which can be good to give you the control over what you spend. Ended up being less expensive than I thought.
