White Chocolate Bark (5 minute prep)

White Chocolate Bark (or any bark for that matter) is pretty much the easiest sweet treat you can possibly make. Endless flavor possibilities, 2-3 ingredients, 5 minutes to put together and 20-30 minutes to chill.

It’s hard to even call this a recipe. In fact, there are really no measurements needed.

The variations in this easy white chocolate bark recipe are only limited by your imagination. Check out some fun variations below.

We’ve shown two types in the images here – peppermint white chocolate bark (holiday festive) and white chocolate almond bark (classy for any occasion).

Start with some good white chocolate chips. Then add your favorite flavors and textures. The new trend is to finish the bark with a sprinkling of sea salt (which we love!).

White chocolate bark makes a perfect gift for that special time of year.

Here are several variations you can try for this super easy treat.

Fillings

  • Nuts: Roasted nuts are best. Try almonds, cashews, macadamia, walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts or pecans.
  • Dried fruit: cranberries, raisins, apricots, cherries or others
  • Others: crushed pretzels, bits of oreo cookies

Favorite Toppings

  • save a few nuts or dried fruit to sprinkle on top
  • crushed peppermint candies or candy canes
  • toasted coconut
  • skor bits
  • festive sprinkles – coordinate colors with holidays e.g. red and green for Christmas time, blue and yellow for Chanukah, black and orange for Halloween.
  • zest – lemon, lime or orange zest
  • sea salt – delish.

Flavorings

  • try adding a couple of drops of flavored extracts like vanilla extract, peppermint or orange.

Shortcut

Ahem. This easy recipe only takes 5 minutes to make (not including chill time)! Nevertheless, you can save time by buying roasted nuts instead of roasting them yourself.

Make Ahead

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature where there is no moisture. No need to refrigerate. The chocolate bark should last at least 3 weeks.
  • Make a great gift for a hostess, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Chanukah, etc. by wrapping the white bark in a cellophane bag or a small box from the dollar store.

Recipe FAQs

Is white chocolate real chocolate?

No. According to Bon Appetit, white chocolate is made with a blend of sugar, cocoa butter, milk products, vanilla, and a fatty substance called lecithin. It is technically not a chocolate as it doesn’t contain cocoa solids.

Is there a difference between white chocolate and white chips?

Yes. White chocolate is smooth, rich and creamy. It melts quicker and contains cocoa butter (white chips don’t). And it sets up softer (white chips snap when broken). The FDA – Food and Drug Administration – says white chocolate must contain at least 20% cocoa butter. White chocolate can be a bit trickier to melt. White chips, also called morsels or wafers, are smooth, whiter and great for making bark.

Is it better to use white chips or white chocolate for bark?

Both will work. America’s Test Kitchen tested several kinds and prefer white chocolate chips for making bark because it hardens into a firm and snappy texture. ATK’s favorite kind is Ghirardelli Classic White Baking Chips.

What are the best white chocolate chips to use for bark?

Ghirardelli Classic White Baking Chips, Callebaut white chocolate (Belgian), Ghiradelli white melting wafers, Guittard and Toll House white chocolate chips are some good options.
