Sriracha Aioli (3 Ingredients, 2 Minutes)

This is the lazy way to make a deliciously, creamy, tangy, spicy sriracha aioli. No equipment, 3 ingredients, 2 minutes. I call it a semi homemade aioli.

Use it as a condiment, dip or drizzle on countless foods to give them a flavorful kick. Check out the suggestions below.

We are not using an immersion blender or making our own mayonnaise for this sriracha aioli recipe. Just a spoon and bowl with a few simple ingredients found in mainstream grocery stores.

It’s best to play with the proportions (and a few extra ingredients if you like) to get this aioli sauce recipe the way your taste buds like it.

Dump, mix and serve. Then enjoy your spicy mayo 🙂

What to expect

  1. A simple fusion of aioli punched up with sriracha hot sauce and lime.
  2. A flavorful spicy kick for proteins, fries, veggies, tacos, sandwiches, etc.
  3. A super quick gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian recipe – with a low calorie, low fat option.

Ingredients – with variations and substitutions

sriracha, mayonnaise, lime, salt
sriracha hot sauce, mayonnaise, lime, salt

The two main ingredients – sriracha and mayonnaise – have seasonings in them. That’s why it’s not necessary to add a lot of other ingredients. But feel free to amp up what you like – garlic, salt, more spice, etc.

Mayonnaise

  • Use richer full-fat or lower fat store-bought mayonnaise which is made with soybean or canola oil, egg yolk, white vinegar and/or lemon juice and spices.
  • For a low calorie, low fat version, sub in low fat Greek yogurt for the mayo or a low/no fat mayo.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan mayo.
  • You can also use miracle whip.
  • Here’s a recipe for homemade mayo if you prefer to make your own.

Sriracha

  • Sriracha is a tangy, slightly sweet, pungent hot sauce made with chili peppers, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt.
  • Substitutes: sambal oelek (an Indonesian chili sauce), any Asian garlic chili sauce like Gochujang, Harissa (Mediterranean) or even Tabasco sauce.

Variations:

  • Try any of these additional ingredients: a couple of drops of sesame oil or a dash or honey or maple syrup. Sriracha contains garlic, but if you really like a more garlicky sauce, add a bit of crushed garlic.
  • The lime juice can be replaced with lemon juice if you like.
  • Make the aioli as spicy as you like by varying the amount of sriracha.

Recipe FAQs

What is aioli?

According to Bon Appetit, in some Mediterranean cultures, traditional aioli is a sauce made from pure olive oil that has been emulsified into mashed garlic. Nowadays, it’s almost synonymous with mayo flavored with garlic. Mayo is an emulsified mixture of oil, lemon juice or vinegar, mustard, egg yolk, and salt.

Is sriracha aioli sauce gluten-free and dairy free?

Yes. In almost all cases, sriracha aioli is gluten free and dairy free. Just check the ingredients on the mayonnaise and sriracha containers to be sure.

What is the difference between mayonnaise and miracle whip?

Mayonnaise and miracle whip have similar ingredients. Miracle whip contains sugar and extra spices, but less calories and fat. It’s actually considered a ‘dressing’ since it contains less than 65% oil which would qualify it as a mayonnaise.

Shortcuts

Ok, I know shortcuts for a 2 minute recipe sounds ridiculous, but I did say this is a lazy recipe, so…

  1. Make the aioli sauce in a small jar so you don’t have to transfer it if you have leftovers 🙂
  2. Use store-bought lime juice or lemon juice.

Make ahead

Store the aioli sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
